Media Effects

Hypodermic theory - injects an idea in your head e.g. Doing drugs is good, or a certain way of committing suicide is the best way of doing it.

Moral panics – Something that gets over hyped like if someone kills someone and a film gets blamed for it like the Childs Play incident.

Inoculation theory – 40’s films weren’t that extreme because they were new but now we’re used to them, they are more extreme and we become desensitised.

Positive effect – Feel good films, Role model films and Anti racism films that make you feel good after seeing them give people a positive feeling after seeing them.

Catharsis – Basically, the more violent films you watch, the less violent you become. E.g. Play COD and feel more relaxed after playing it. The same applies for watching violent films like Saw. (Self-healing)
