Carrie - Cinderella The film, Carrie, is about a friendless girl abused by her christian fundamentalist mother and bullied by the popular girls of her class (ugly sister/wicked stepmother reference). When she experiences her first period in the gym shower, she becomes hysterical. Due to her sheltered life, she's no knowledge of periods. Rather than help, the girls throw tampons and sanitary towels at her until the gym teacher intervenes. While she's screaming, a light-bulb breaks. Carrie realises she has telekinesis powers (magical aspect). One of the girls, Sue, takes pity on her and asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom to make her feel normal (prince character). As this is happening, the gym teacher encourages her to go and tells her to make a dress and wear makeup for the first time (fairy god-mother). However when she goes to the prom with her date in her dress, she is rigged the prom queen only to have a bucket of pigs blood poured over her by one of the bullies. As she gets mad, her powers take over and destroy the school and kill everyone. When she goes home her mother tries to kill her. But Carrie kills her instead. This is a rather modern adaptation of Cinderella, but obviously with a different genre. Additionally, another inspiration to our film is the alternate ending. Instead of a happy, forgiving ending, Carrie's prom goes badly, and instead of forgiving her mother and bullies, she kills them all.
